November 1, 2015 – Sermon – “Being God’s Stewards, Part 2: If I Could Save Time in a Bottle” – Rev. Diane R. Ford

The message of the New Testament is that because of the grace of God, those who are “in Christ” are “saints.” This statement is striking, because none of us would call ourselves “saintly!”  But that is the point: because of Christ, we are “made new;” we are “freed and forgiven,” not because of something we’ve earned or proven or done, or acquired.  Because of God’s grace, and grace alone, we are “saints.” This also applies to all who have died before us. There is a unity we share with them (“all the saints”) and they join us spiritually when we come to the Lord’s Table for communion.  It’s a spiritual perspective — one way of expressing the Good News — the power of God’s love, seen and demonstrated in Jesus, has revealed the “mystery of the ages,” as the Scriptures call it.  The mystery is that our eternal and love-filled universe is ruled by its Maker who calls us “saints” and holds us in unity across all space and time.  Heavy? Yes. But we can go there.  Let us worship God.
